Sullivan Speaking on S.2485, the Medal of Honor Surviving Spouses Recognition Act
Senator Sullivan recently spoke at a Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee hearing on the importance of passing his legislation known as the Medal of Honor Surviving Spouses Recognition Act. This bill was inspired by a Vietnam veteran from Wasilla named Dave Glenn. Every Memorial Day, Veterans Day and Vietnam Veterans Day, Dave stands at attention for hours near the Glenn Highway’s Bondsteel Bridge of Honor, named after Medal of Honor recipient and fellow Vietnam veteran Army SFC James Bondsteel, who now rests at the Ft. Richardson National Cemetery. Dave’s honor guard pays respect not only to SFC Bondsteel, but the wife and family he left behind. S.2485 honors families like them, by extending the special pension granted to Medal of Honor recipients to the spouses that survive them after they’re gone. Dave’s service and advocacy has been impactful and Senator Sullivan was glad to introduce this piece of legislation on behalf of these American heroes.
